Change is in the air

This has definitely been a summer of change.

First, I ended my 6 1/2 year run in the youth department at our church, where I ran the sound each Wednesday night. Instead, I am now teaching an adult Sunday School class specifically for newlyweds. The class is going well, and the youth department is... getting by. I'm going to drop in tonight to see if I can give them a hand and help the new guy understand the system a little bit better. I really hated to quit doing that, because the music is great in there, and I have always enjoyed running sound. But, I know that this Sunday School class is where God wants me to be.

Secondly, Mary and I were asked to join the Board of Directors for Images Creative Group. ICG is a ministry that Mary used to travel with (before we were married) and we have been close friends with them for a long time. The are really shifting their focus and stepping up the intensity in several areas, and we were honored to be asked to help direct and grow this ministry.

The third big change came somewhat abruptly, and that was the purchase of a new home. We signed the contract, got the financing, closed, and moved in a little less than a month. Still, it was not as quick as our first home purchase (19 days). The difference this time was that we weren't looking for a house - the opportunity just came our way, and when we prayed about it, we really felt like it was a gift from God, so we took it. We are still trying to sell our old house, but I'm sure that will take care of itself in due time.

At work, there is an effort going on to re-organize our IS (Information Services) department. As a part of all that, I have been asked, and have agreed, to take a new position within the company. It's a little difficult to explain without going into a lot of detail, but you could say that I'm going from being a builder to an architect, only in the computer world. I'll be a part of a group that will be "setting the technological direction for the company" (or so I am told). I'm actually very excited about it, but of course with change there is always a bit of uncertainty. I'm sure it will be good in the long run, though.
