Back In Business

Well, I got my computer working after all. I did find a Knoppix disk in my closet, but it was an older version and it didn't support my video card, so it wasn't much help. However, I used another CD of utilities that I have to check the disk and I found that it had some corrupt data, but was not entirely dead.

I ended up having to switch a few things around inside the computer so I could run a disk repair program (which took about an hour to run), and that fixed the problem. Now it boots up as usual and I didn't lose anything but a couple hours of time.

I can practially hear the sigh of relief as you read this...

AmyI am relieved.

Sorry, I just skimmed all the stuff you did to repair it but it stinks to have your computer on the fritz.

I thought about actually writing out in detail what the problem was and what I had to do to fix it, but then I realized that no one would want to read all that. At least no one who checks my blog...

MichelleI'm glad you got it working. I was going to suggest you use my Knoppix cd (I think it's pretty new) but then I read that you fixed it. :p

KevinI actually had a similar problem once and what I did was take out the hard drive and put it in another computer as a secondary drive then run a scan disk and had it correct the errors. I never had another problem. It was a bit of a pain since at the time I had only one computer so I had to lug my work computer home but hey, at least I didn't have to reformat and lose EVERYTHING.
