First Band-Aid

Owen is wearing his first Band-Aid. He never complained and I don't know how long he had been going around with a sliver in his left hand, but there it was this afternoon with a little puffy red circle around it. He probably got it while crawling around on the wood floors. I never thought about him getting a sliver from them, but there is a spot or two where something has gashed the floor ever so slightly and could have been the culprit in this case. After making the discovery I picked at at a little with my fingers to see if I could push it out, having had slivers myself I know this is painful, but he never even winced. What a man! I was unsuccessful so we went to the medicine cabinet and pulled out all the sliver tools. The tweezers were very successful and I did not have to resort to a needle. The needle was the most feared sliver extractor when I was a child. Mom would spend all this time cleaning it in front of me and I was already hurting just from looking at the dreaded thing. Once I had pulled the tiny little piece of wood from his hand I put Hydrogen Peroxide on it and a little dab of Neosporin. Then I stuck a Band-Aid on it and he was sort of surprised. He shook his hand as if to try to loosen it and fling it off...but it would not come off. Now he keeps looking at his hand and opening and closing his fist. I am imagining how strange it must feel to him. It's so cute and I want to attach a picture of it but I don't know how. Is that sick somehow? To enjoy your son's first Band-Aid experience? Oh...well.

Mary, I just read your blog. I love it. I think you are very verbally expressive. When you write I can picture it happening. I love hearing about my grandson, of course. You could easily make a very interesting book out of it. What does blog stand for tho? Seems like it would be clog or plog or even dlog. What is the B for?

Hello 'Mom Kelso'! Isn't it wonderful that computers can bring to life the daily happenings of the people you love far away? That is the reason I started a blog ("web log") last year- to better update friends and family. So, Mary, how long did that Band-Aid stay on? Most kids that age I've seen won't rest until they've successfully torn it free!

The band-Aid was secure until the next day when I took it off myself. He was fascinated by it but didn't try to pull it off that I saw. You could see his wheels turning as he watched me peel it from his hand. His hand healed very well and you can only see that there was anything there if you are really looking for it. Also...mom, if you want to read Tisra's blog sometime go here... Tisra's Blog

The bits and pieces of my days all stitched together, in hopes of creating something useful from moments that may have otherwise been thrown away. I'm a girl who blushes when you call her a woman, a wife who adores the man God picked just for her, a mom who can't believe God has given her this honor, a friend who strives to return the enjoyment she gets from those around her and a darn good dreamer.
