We have decided to name our second born son Ivan Harrison Kelso. He has been running around nameless for far to long and on Monday night Kris and I made a decision and we're sticking to it.
There were about 10 names we were tossing around so I decided to write them all down, look up the popularity of each name as well as the meaning and start crossing off the ones in the top 10, the ones only one of us likes, the names that meant something silly and the ones that just didn't go well. I am pretty partial to the name Harrison but we both feel it is too long for a first name, especially when Owen has such a short first name...we wanted a name that would sound good with Owen and also be easy to say and spell in the future. We like Harrison as a middle name and it is something of a family name on my side (My dad is Harry and my brother is Joel Harrison). Kris isn't crazy about Ivan and Harrison together but it doesn't bother him enough to keep him from liking the name. I had forgotten, until recently when my sister reminded me, that I also have a second cousin named Ivan but he is Amish, goes by Ivan Lee and lives in Michigan where he runs his mom and dad's herbal medicine store. He wouldn't even know me if I walked in the store, so that's not a significant connection or anything.
Anyway...after careful consideration and a little impatience we made our choice and we like it. Yes, it has it's negative connotations...Ivan The Terrible & Ivan the hurricane but we aren't worrying about that. From what I understand Ivan the Terrible repented in his old age. Too bad he had to kill so many people before he got his life right. Our Ivan will be a good boy...a nice boy...the name means God is Good and that's what we'll remind him of as often as possible.
