Total Woman Retreat 2009

Well, we were frugal. Due to some unexpected circumstances only two of the 6 girls who had said they were coming showed up last night. A third joined us this morning and we had a great time.

Last night we decided to follow our planned schedule despite our small number. We enjoyed a devotion and a few tips on cooking and preparing and planning ahead in order to cut costs in the kitchen.

This morning we used the waffle mix we had prepared the night before and enjoyed a nice breakfast followed by a devotion. Food seems to warm up your heart sometimes and maybe even soften it a little, which may have been the reason we were able to open them so easily during the devotion.

It was interesting to see how the discussion that was prompted by the devotion turned into tears, laughter and little confession time. I was thankful...really, really grateful...for our little crowd. Had there been any more among us we may not have felt the freedom to be so open. Discussion on sacrifice and resourcefulness turned to discussion on husbands and responsibility. We shared a few honest hurts and then confessed a few honest mistakes. I think we dug a little deeper than we expected and sometimes, right there in the dirt, we saw our own depravity staring us in the face. Maybe it's me. We had to admit that now and then.

We talked about time, kids, needs and fears. We discussed solutions, attitudes, faith and understanding. One thing I really wanted and felt that I was able to package this weekend was a faith in these ladies. I see them every week but we've never been so open with each other. I know that I can trust them and I hope they saw that I'm trustworthy as well.

Ooooh.... so good! Yes, sometimes a smaller crowd is better.

That sounds wonderful - I wish I could have been there. I know I'm always more comfortable in a small group. I love those honest, raw discussions...they really dig down and get you somewhere.

Sounds like a good time. Frequently fewer people allows for more depth and intimacy. Nice.

The bits and pieces of my days all stitched together, in hopes of creating something useful from moments that may have otherwise been thrown away. I'm a girl who blushes when you call her a woman, a wife who adores the man God picked just for her, a mom who can't believe God has given her this honor, a friend who strives to return the enjoyment she gets from those around her and a darn good dreamer.
