I have to agree with Christy... once a decision is made, there is peace. Sadly, I go through this every year and am still in the "decision mode" regarding Fadely Academy next year. ;-)

I really, really think you should look into the Sonlight curriculum for Ivan. We use it, and I think it would be especially sweet of a time with just one child to focus on. Lots of reading, reading, reading and a great Christian curriculum with a world focus that motivates even the youngest to see beyond their borders with the eye of Christ and a "God can do ANYTHING" attitude!

Christy and Tisra - Yes, it is a relief to have the decision made. It puts the work that must continue into a much more motivated category of "things to do."

I definitely want to look at curriculum options. I like the sound of what you are talking about. Abeka (not sure if I've spelled that right) is what they use at MJCA, so that is a good option in terms of then transferring Ivan into the Kindergarten program there. I am going to be rehashing the decision again next year I'm sure. So...maybe God wants me to do this with Ivan to show me what can happen without my being overwhelmed with two students. He often takes things slow with me. We could very easily start Aron in preschool next year or even this year as he will be three before the cut-off date in the fall. So there are lots of decisions coming. And ya' know...praying about this one has also been practice for making the ones to come.

I know it's not about my feelings...but I feel good. :)

I have an entire Abeka kindergarten program and I have to say that it's pretty convoluted and an overall pain in the, ahem, backside. I may still use it as a guideline for Halle but it's set up to teach an entire class full of kids rather than really being for homeschool. Some people swear by it though and I think it's for individuals that really want their kids school experience to mirror being at school as closely as possible. You could take a look at it if you'd like to. We're looking at Sonlight as well as Winter Promise.

Not to overwhelm you. You've got time and all of the details will come together when they should. It sounds like you've got a pretty good plan already.

I saw that Kenny had made this suggestion about keeping Ivan at home and sending Owen on to school so I didn't repeat it.

I've heard really good things about Sonlight from my Dutch friend. She loved it. I think I would dread it for myself b/c I don't enjoy reading outloud.

Good decision. I feel that kids are stimulated by each other and want to be with other children; as long as the experiences are positive, they will benefit from being part of a group. But I know there is a place and time for homeschooling too. Being led by God in your decisions pretty much guarantees good outcomes.
