I've had the sewing machine out and busy lately. First I made some gifts for a little baby girl I'm excited about being here. Then I did something I've been meaning to do for a LONG time. A towel recovery project.

I've had this towel for some time. It is faded and has a few snags, but it's still very usable and thick. The worst of it has been the hem on one end has come out. I still used it in our powder room except when company was coming. I would change it out for one in the rotation that was a bit easier on the eyes.

First I cut off the offending and fraying edge.

I stitched a zig-zag stitch along that edge to keep it from further fraying. I then stitched (right sides together) a small strip of a coordinating cotton fabric to the end of the towel.

I pressed the seam up so that the cotton fabric extends from the length of the towel.

I pressed a small fold along the top edge of the cotton fabric.

Then I pressed the ends in so they are flush with the sides of the towel.

I then folded the cotton fabric over the edge of the towel and pressed it.

I hand stitched all along edges of cotton, attaching it along the sides and edge of towel.

And now...I can leave it hanging in my powder room without shame.

Just thought I'd share, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who has sad towels. This took about an hour to do with the help of a few little boys who are sure to allow me to finish projects in twice the time.

I wouldn't trade them for anything though.
