Apology

If I could empty the contents of my soul

show you the pieces of my heart

You would see how tiny a flaw

led to the scar I gave you.

If you were to look at all the good

the gems of my character,

the best of my passions,

you might be inclined to forgive.

but I know

How much I hurt you

How wounded you are

I know

No matter how great the good

It was the flaw that led me

and made me small.

If I could empty the contents of my soul

show you the pieces of my heart

I would want you to see the sorrow,

the shadow that I've made.

I would want you to know

I'm so much more than ashamed,

more than contrite,

guilty,

or humbled,

I am above all else,

sorry.

AmyThis is beautifully written but it makes me sad. Hope everything is okay.

MaryAll is well. I was actually thinking about someone else and the person who had hurt them. Wondering what it would take to feel that they meant, "I'm sorry." It's way too easy to say.

Rebecca Jeffries-HymanOh how many miserable arguments this would save in any given marriage, not to mention friendship. Pride is indeed a cold bedfellow. Good thought, Mary! Love you!
